Goldy Gopher and Ashley T. Haase, M.D.
Regents' Professor and Head, Department of Microbiology

The Department of Microbiology of the University of Minnesota welcomes your inquiries and applications to its programs. Our community of scholars is committed to discovering and disseminating knowledge about the microbial world. This website contains general information about the department and detailed descriptions of our faculty, whose interests and expertise encompass some of the most exciting areas of contemporary microbiology, ranging from the physiology and development of microorganisms to the molecular pathogenesis of infections.

Students here have an opportunity to become junior colleagues with our faculty and engage in a collective effort to research the enigmas of modern biology and, in that pursuit, learn the technologies that have emerged in the past decade. Our faculty is dedicated to providing a unified body of knowledge, stimulating curiosity about the enduring questions in microbiology, and addressing these issues through joint research projects.

If you wish to commit yourself to the free and spirited inquiry that advances knowledge, and to the traditions of scholarship that preserve microbiology as a coherent discipline, consider the University of Minnesota.
